The University of New Orleans received a $4.8 million Project Grant award from the Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration's (EDA) Economic Adjustment Assistance program on September 8, 2022. The funding will support the H2TheFuture Coalition led by the Greater New Orleans Development Foundation to boost the clean energy sector in New Orleans through transitioning the regional hydrogen energy sector. Coalition projects include supporting a central campus to connect the hydrogen cluster ecosystem, coordinating programming and testbeds to improve hydrogen cost competitiveness, developing a center for hydrogen-fueled ships, and a hydrogen fueling barge. The investment aims to strengthen regional industry clusters in clean energy and hydrogen while creating good-paying jobs and enhancing U.S. competitiveness globally. As the awardee, the University of New Orleans will oversee delivery of the coalition's projects with the Louisiana Board of Regents serving as the parent organization.
