DESCRIPTION:THIS BIPARTISAN INFRASTRUCTURE LAW (BIL) PROJECT WILL PROVIDE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE (E.G., INFORMATION, TRAINING, TOOLS) TO BUSINESSES TO HELP THEM DEVELOP AND ADOPT SOURCE REDUCTION PRACTICES (ALSO KNOWN AS POLLUTION PREVENTION (P2)). P2 MEANS REDUCING OR ELIMINATING POLLUTANTS FROM ENTERING ANY WASTE STREAM OR OTHERWISE BEING RELEASED INTO THE ENVIRONMENT PRIOR TO RECYCLING, TREATMENT, OR DISPOSAL. P2 PRACTICES CAN HELP BUSINESSES SAVE MONEY BY REDUCING THEIR RESOURCE USE, EXPENDITURES, WASTE AND LIABILITY COSTS, WHILE AT THE SAME TIME REDUCING THEIR ENVIRONMENTAL FOOTPRINT AND HELPING TO PROTECT HUMAN HEALTH AND THE ENVIRONMENT. THROUGH COLLABORATION WITH SUBJECT MATTER EXPERTS, THE WASHINGTON DEPARTMENT OF ECOLOGY AIMS TO PROVIDE BUSINESSES WITH TAILORED SOLUTIONS USING ON-SITE AND OFF-SITE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE STRATEGIES AND DELIVER INNOVATIVE TRAINING SESSIONS. THESE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE APPROACHES WILL LEAD TO A DECREASED RELEASE OF POLLUTANTS ASSOCIATED WITH ENERGY PRODUCTION, CLEANING SYSTEMS, AND PAINTING PRACTICES. THESE APPROACHES ARE ALSO DESIGNED TO EMPOWER BUSINESSES TO CONSERVE NATURAL RESOURCES, LEADING TO A HEALTHIER ENVIRONMENT AND IMPROVED HUMAN HEALTH. ACTIVITIES:THIS PROPOSAL AIMS TO PROMOTE POLLUTION PREVENTION (P2) SOLUTIONS THROUGH EXPERT-LED INITIATIVES FOR BUSINESSES. FIRSTLY, THE WASHINGTON DEPARTMENT OF ECOLOGY WILL COLLABORATE WITH AN ENERGY EFFICIENCY CONSULTANT TO OFFER CUSTOMIZED SOLUTIONS, FACILITATING THE ADOPTION OF P2 PRACTICES, FROM PROCESS ADJUSTMENTS TO EQUIPMENT UPGRADES. SECONDLY, THEY WILL ENGAGE A CONSULTANT TO IMPLEMENT CLEAN-IN-PLACE (CIP) EQUIPMENT IN FOOD AND BEVERAGE FACILITIES, AUTOMATING CLEANING PROCESSES TO NOTABLY CUT WATER USAGE AND TOXIC CHEMICAL USE. LASTLY, PARTNERING WITH THE POLLUTION PREVENTION RESOURCE CENTER (PPRC), THEY WILL PROVIDE SPRAY PAINT EFFICIENCY TRAINING USING A VIRTUAL REALITY TOOL, WHICH CAN REDUCE TOXIC PAINT CONSUMPTION AND THE RELEASE OF HAZARDOUS EMISSIONS. THEIR PARTNERS WILL DELIVER BOTH ON-SITE AND OFF-SITE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO INDUSTRIES, FOSTERING NATURAL RESOURCE CONSERVATION AND REDUCING TOXIC CHEMICAL USE AND HAZARDOUS WASTE GENERATION. SUBRECIPIENT:NO SUBAWARDS ARE INCLUDED IN THIS ASSISTANCE AGREEMENT.OUTCOMES:THE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE CONDUCTED BY THE GRANTEE WILL BENEFIT FACILITIES IN WASHINGTON STATE. THE GRANTEE IS EXPECTED TO REPORT ON P2 PERFORMANCE MEASURES (OUTPUTS AND OUTCOMES) AND NOTE WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM THE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AS WELL AS COMMIT TO FOLLOWING-UP WITH FACILITIES TO FIND OUT WHETHER THE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE WAS ADOPTED AND IMPLEMENTED.
