This $3,577,746 project grant from the Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration's Economic Adjustment Assistance program will support the University of Charleston in establishing a downtown innovation hub. The hub will provide staffing, supplies, equipment, contracting and general operational assistance to help launch over 54 new small businesses in the nine coal-impacted counties near Charleston, West Virginia. Awarded on May 24, 2022, this funding will increase entrepreneurial capacity and attract private investment to an area negatively affected by declines in the coal industry through the development of a business incubation and acceleration program operated by the University of Charleston.
