The City of Northwood, Ohio received a $500,000 Project Grant award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) through the Geographic Programs - Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (CFDA 66.469) to restore aquatic and riparian habitat along Dry Creek within the Maumee River Area of Concern. The project activities include increasing stream sinuosity, creating a wider floodplain with more in-stream cover, and restoring wetland habitat. The anticipated outcomes include 0.8 acres and 560 linear feet of riparian buffer, 350 linear feet of restored stream channel, 480 linear feet of floodplain bench, and 0.5 acres of riparian wetland habitat. The goal is to improve habitat for fish and wildlife, increase habitat diversity, and enhance conditions for benthic organisms in the Maumee River Area of Concern. The award period is from September 15, 2023 to September 14, 2026.
