The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 5 awarded a $2,137,750 Project Grant to the Great Lakes Fishery Commission under the EPA's Geographic Programs - Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (CFDA 66.469). The grant funds will be used to implement three priority projects: 1) develop new sea lamprey control methods, 2) issue grants for restoration of native Great Lakes fish populations, and 3) design and conduct pre-construction work on a new sea lamprey barrier on the Grand River in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The grant period runs from September 1, 2023 to September 1, 2027. The Great Lakes Fishery Commission will serve as the prime recipient and manage sub-awards to support research and answer critical management questions for the restoration of native Great Lakes fish species.
