The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation will receive $250,000 from November 1, 2022 to May 31, 2025 through a Project Grant from the Environmental Protection Agency Region 5 under the Geographic Programs - Great Lakes Restoration Initiative federal grant program (CFDA 66.469). The Department will partner with the New York State Department of Health and Pennsylvania Interagency Fish Consumption Advisory Technical Workgroup to update fish and wildlife consumption advisories in order to reduce exposure to toxic substances. Activities will include preparing a quality assurance project plan, collecting approximately 112 waterfowl samples from counties bordering Lake Erie, Lake Ontario, and the St. Lawrence River in New York and Pennsylvania, and analyzing the results to revise consumption advisories. The intended outcome is to ensure the public has information needed to safely consume fish and wildlife without undue risk from contaminant exposure. No subawards are included in the assistance agreement.
