DESCRIPTION:FUNDING IS PROVIDED TO THE RHODE ISLAND DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT TO MAINTAIN AND OPERATE SPECIAL AIR TOXICS MONITORING THAT ARE PART OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY'S NATIONAL TRENDS NETWORK THAT COLLECTS AND ANALYZES VARIOUS TOXIC POLLUTANTS IN THE ATMOSPHERE AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS WITHIN RHODE ISLAND.ACTIVITIES:THE PROJECT WILL INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING ACTIVITIES: OPERATING NATIONAL AIR TOXIC TRENDS SITES (NATTS) SITES RESULTING RESULTING IN THE COLLECTION OF QUALITY-ASSURED AMBIENT AIR TOXICS MEASUREMENTS FOR SELECTED HAZARDOUS AIR POLLUTANTS (HAP) WITH SUBMITTAL TO THE NATIONAL AIR QUALITY DATABASE; CHARACTERIZING AMBIENT LEVELS OF AIR TOXICS WITHIN RHODE ISLAND; PROVIDING QUALITY ASSURED HAP DATA FOR TRENDS DETERMINATION; EVALUATING PUBLIC EXPOSURE AND ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS IN THE VICINITY OF MONITORS; PROVIDING QUALITY ASSURED HAPS DATA FOR RISK CHARACTERIZATION; ASSESSING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF SPECIFIC EMISSION REDUCTION ACTIVITIES; AND EVALUATING AND SUBSEQUENTLY IMPROVING AIR TOXICS EMISSION INVENTORIES AND MODEL PERFORMANCE. SUBRECIPIENT:NO SUBAWARDS ARE INCLUDED IN THIS ASSISTANCE AGREEMENT.OUTCOMES:EXPECTED DELIVERABLES INCLUDE CONTINUOUS NATIONAL AIR TOXIC TREND SITES MONITORING TO PROVIDE DATA TO THE PUBLIC, SCIENTIFIC, AND HEALTH COMMUNITIES. EXPECTED OUTCOMES OF THE NATTS MONITORING WILL PROVIDE RHODE ISLAND WITH FINE PARTICULATE DATA OF THE SAME QUALITY AND ALLOW THEM TO COMPARE CONTINUOUS DATA STREAMS IN NEARBY AREAS. THE NATTS PROJECT, IN ACCORDANCE WITH ALL ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY REQUIREMENTS, WILL LEAD TO THE COLLECTION OF QUALITY ASSURED AMBIENT AIR QUALITY DATA TO HELP ENSURE THAT MORE AMERICANS ARE LIVING AND WORKING IN AREAS THAT MEET HIGH AIR QUALITY STANDARDS. THE DIRECT BENEFICIARIES OF THESE ACTIVITIES ARE RESIDENTS OF RHODE ISLAND.
