The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 9 awarded the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) a $179,000 project grant effective July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026, under CFDA 66.034 (Surveys, Studies, Research, Investigations, Demonstrations, and Special Purpose Activities Relating to the Clean Air Act). Of the total obligation, $142,323 represents EPA in-kind services. ADEQ will operate the National Air Toxics Trends Site (NATTS) monitoring program at two Phoenix-area locations: the JLG Supersite and South Phoenix site. The primary deliverable is the collection and submission of quality-assured ambient air toxics measurements for hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) to EPA's Air Quality System (AQS) data repository on a quarterly basis. ADEQ's activities include monitoring ambient concentrations of air toxic compounds at both monitoring sites and collecting comprehensive meteorological parameters at the JLG Supersite, including temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction, solar radiation, mixing layer height, precipitation, and atmospheric pressure. The monitoring network is designed to detect a 15% difference in successive three-year annual mean concentrations and will characterize ambient air toxics levels within the Phoenix communities. No subawards are included in this assistance agreement. Upon successful completion, ADEQ will deliver a year's worth of quality-assured HAP data submitted to the EPA's national air quality database, contributing to the NATTS program's long-term objective of providing consistent, reliable air toxics monitoring data.Federal Grant Award Summary
