Description
As the premier international conference on geochemistry and cosmochemistry the goldschmidt conference plays a critical role in introducing young researchers to the world of geochemistry beyond their home institutions. This international meeting will provide an excellent opportunity for young geochemists to share their research with the scientific community learn about cutting edge research taking place around the world and interact with senior scientists specializing in their specific fields of interest. Thematic issues to be addressed at the conference span a broad range of subdisciplines in low- and high- temperature geochemistry relevant to NASA research goals including several sessions on cosmochemistry planetary science evolution of the early earth the solar system planetary materials evolution of life astrobiology and more. The full program for the 2019 conference is available at: https://goldschmidt.info/2019/program/programviewthemes...in addition to oral and poster presentation sessions students and early career scientists will have an opportunity to participate in a mentoring program field trips professional development workshops and short courses. The requested funds will cover part of the expenses related to student and postdoc travel and participation at the meeting. International scientific meetings are the primary networking outlet for researchers of all experience levels. For students and postdocs these meetings are often the first opportunity to interact with members of the international scientific community. The lingering effects of such an international learning and networking experience can be life changing for a student or post-DOC struggling to gain a foothold in the scientific community. The proposed student/postdoc travel support program will enable more young planetary scientists from the US and US territories to participate in this important meeting. The geochemical society is requesting funds to support early career researchers at the 2019 (barcelona) 2020 (honolulu) and 2021 (lyon) conferences. .a NASA award in 2018 supported nine early career participants at the goldschmidt conference in boston. Thanks to growing awareness of the planetary science grants 20 students and postdocs at U.S. Institutions have applied this year. By establishing the program as an annual source of support for the next three years the society will be able to advertise IT earlier and to a wider audience. This will help to increase the size quality and diversity of the applicant pool. .
