The Department of Education's Office of Elementary and Secondary Education awarded the Tennessee Department of Education a $2,489,423,407 formula grant under the Education Stabilization Fund program (CFDA 84.425) on March 24, 2021 to address impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic through September 30, 2023. The grant supports the Elementary and Secondary Schools Emergency Relief Fund (ARP-ESSER) program by providing funding to 136 local educational agencies and special school districts across Tennessee for services and assistance to enable continued operation of K-12 schools and address the impact of lost instructional time on students. Sub-awards ranged from $1 million to over $500 million for the state's largest school districts. The funding will support COVID-19 preparedness and response efforts, including coordination of public health responses, national activities, and administration and oversight of elementary and secondary education emergency relief funds.
