The South Carolina Department of Education (SCDOE) received a $1,946,405.00 formula grant from the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Elementary and Secondary Education to support the Education for Homeless Children and Youth program (CFDA 84.196). This grant, awarded on July 1, 2023 with a completion date of September 30, 2024, will enable SCDOE to ensure that all homeless children and youth in the state have equal access to free, appropriate public education. As the state education agency, SCDOE will use these funds to establish or designate an Office of Coordinator for Education of Homeless Children and Youths to oversee and coordinate the provision of services to these students. The grant will also enable SCDOE to provide subawards to school districts, colleges, nonprofits, and other entities across South Carolina to deliver academic instruction, supplemental services, and enrichment programming for homeless children and youth.
