The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Elementary and Secondary Education has awarded a $2,665,643 Formula Grant under the Title I State Agency Program for Neglected and Delinquent Children and Youth (CFDA 84.013) to the New York State Education Department (NYSED). This program aims to provide educational continuity and support for youth in state-run juvenile institutions and adult correctional facilities, helping neglected and delinquent children and youth successfully transition back to school or employment. As the state educational agency, NYSED will use this funding to deliver a comprehensive range of educational services, including academic instruction, special education support, career and technical training, counseling, and transition planning. The grant will enable NYSED to sub-award portions of the funding to state departments of corrections, juvenile justice services, and local educational agencies, which will directly provide these services to neglected and delinquent youth in institutional settings across New York. The grant period runs from July 1, 2025 to September 30, 2026.
