The Special Education Preschool Grants program (CFDA 84.173) awarded $37,147,853 to the New York State Education Department on July 1, 2023 to provide special education and related services to children with disabilities ages 3 through 5 years, and at the state's discretion, to 2-year-old children with disabilities. The New York State Education Department has used this Formula Grant funding to provide sub-awards to various local school districts and educational entities across New York to deliver supplemental educational services, programs, and resources for preschool and school-aged children with disabilities. Sub-awardees have used the funds to expand pre-kindergarten opportunities, strengthen special education, improve academic achievement, provide well-rounded education access, and safely reopen schools during the COVID-19 pandemic.
