The Arizona Department of Education received a $5,759,378 Formula Grant award from the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services on July 1, 2021 through the Special Education Preschool Grants program (CFDA 84.173). The grant period concludes on September 30, 2022. The award funds special education and related services for children with disabilities ages 3 through 5, and at the state's discretion 2-year olds, to assist states in providing a free and appropriate public education. Over 30 local educational agencies in Arizona receive sub-awards totaling the full award amount to support instruction and related services for preschool-aged students with disabilities. Services include specially designed instruction, evaluations, assistive technology, professional development and supplemental materials. The sub-awardees, such as the Dysart and Roosevelt School Districts, will utilize the funding to deliver special education programming and support staff salaries.
