Description
The state parks division of texas parks and wildlife department (tpwd) will implement habitat restoration treatments on texas state parklands to benefit occupied and potential habitat for avian species of greatest conservation need (sgcn) identified in the texas parks and wildlife departments state wildlife action plan (tpwd 2023). Treatments will include prescribed applications of fire herbicide and physical removal of invasive vegetation primarily woody species that are altering the composition and arrangement of natural communities crucial to the identified sgcn. The restoration project will encompass identified priority habitats within state park and state natural area sites across the state managed by the state parks division of texas parks and wildlife department. The project will be implemented from september 1ST 2025 (FY 2026) to august 31ST 2027 (FY 2027). Specific timing on individual treatments will be based on vegetation type and historic fire regime occupation by and potential impact to sgcn as well as fuel and weather conditions. Additional timing considerations will include growth stage of target vegetation for proper application of herbicides and physical removal to achieve the maximum benefit. The state parks division will utilize department personnel and contracted services to complete identified treatments. Sites and individual treatment areas will be monitored throughout the project timeframe and project crews will be mobilized across the state for implementation when opportunities arise.
