About this award

The Nevada Department of Wildlife received $1,034,839 in federal funding through the State Wildlife Grants (SWG) Program (CFDA 15.634), administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Region 8. The award, effective July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026, supports implementation of Nevada's State Wildlife Action Plan (2022) with a primary focus on conservation of Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN). Deliverables under this grant include wildlife population monitoring and assessment activities to evaluate conservation effectiveness, species surveys and research initiatives to increase understanding of lesser-known species, and habitat restoration efforts. These activities are designed to maintain healthy, thriving wildlife populations at stable or increasing population trends while preventing further declines of at-risk species.

The grant's strategic objectives align with broader regional conservation goals to prevent future federal Endangered Species Act listings and to support recovery of already-listed species toward eventual delisting. Projects will address a range of Nevada's diverse ecosystems and wildlife species, with activities encompassing both monitoring of well-established species and research on species with limited baseline data. By implementing these proactive conservation measures, the Nevada Department of Wildlife will contribute to avoiding costly federal intervention while promoting species recovery and ecological stability across the state.
