About this award
The U.S. Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service awarded $200,000 through the Sport Fish Restoration program (CFDA 15.605) to the State of Utah, Division of Wildlife Resources, effective July 1, 2025, with a completion date of June 30, 2026. The primary objective is to enhance boating access and safety at Utah Lake State Park, the largest of 28 public access points at Utah Lake, which serves over 280,000 annual visitors. The funding supports critical infrastructure improvements including repair and replacement of aged and damaged asphalt in boater parking areas, installation of life jacket loaner stations to increase water safety, and construction of storage facilities for educational materials and personal flotation device (PFD) checkout equipment.
The Utah Lake Authority serves as the sub-awardee, contracting with Utah State Parks to oversee the execution of parking repairs and the installation of PFD checkout stations and associated storage infrastructure. These improvements are designed to provide safe and satisfying boating experiences while accommodating the high-volume visitation demands at this heavily-used recreational facility. By combining parking maintenance with water safety enhancements and educational outreach capacity, the project addresses both the physical infrastructure deterioration and the public safety needs associated with intensive recreational boating use.
