Description
These frogs will be used to augmentexisting threatened and or endangered (t e) populations or help reestablish recently extirpated t e populations. This project will allow the rearing of up to three cohorts of 200 individuals and help cover costs of equipmentfor collection, transport, and release of individuals back into the wild. The project will also help furtherinvestigate the benefits of placing captive-reared frogs through a period of brumation (i.e., hibernation), whichmany populations experiences naturally in the wild. Funding will also allow for the collection and analysis ofenvironmental DNA (edna) samples by the california department of fish and wildlife (cdfw) genetic researchlaboratory (GRL). These edna samples will be collected as part of t e ranid frog monitoring (r. Boylii, r.cascadae, r. Draytonii, and r. Sierrae) in cdfw region 2 (R2), specifically areas in need of more recentmonitoring, or where monitoring has not previously occurred (e.g., many lotic habitats have not been surveyed bycdfw for native ranid frogs). Work will take place in the northern sierra nevada and west slope foothills, fromalpine county north to plumas county. This project will meet several SWG oversight committee (SOC) priorities, including long-term species monitoring multi-species, landscape-scale monitoring supporting a critical nongamemanagement project and resiliency planning for drought and climate change.
