Description
The primary purpose of this project is to collect and interpret fisheries information to make informed management decisions, enhancing sport fish populations and allowing abundant recreational fishing opportunities while conserving the resource. Activities to be performed across the state of nebraska include conducting fish population surveys (i.e. netting, trapping, electrofishing, etc.), human dimensions surveys (creels, pressure counts, questionnaires, etc.), and physical, chemical, and biological habitat evaluations. The data collected during these investigations will then be utilized to develop management reports and survey summaries that willguide future management of nebraska fisheries. The work herein will benefit nebraskas aquatic resources by providing ngpc fisheries staff the ability to collect and interpret scientific data, facilitating appropriate management strategies to enhance sport fish populations and their habitats long term. The angling public will directly reap the benefits of improving fisheries for long-term sustainability and ultimately local economies will benefit from the potential of increased fishing activity prompting more travel and recreation-related expenditures. In addition to fisheries and fishing-related benefits, management actions that ultimately improve water quality and aquatic habitat conditions greatly benefit a number of wildlife species and can provide extensive ecosystem enhancements promoting multi-use purposes at nebraskas public waters.
