Description
SFR funds partially operate five hatcheries and also partially fund the odfw fish health program to implement production and stocking of steelhead and trout. Odfws trout hatcheries produce rainbow trout for release at various sizes fingerlings that grow to catchable size in productive waters, legals which are harvestable trout, and also larger trophy-sized trout. The legal and trophy-sized trout create fisheries where marginal habitats or primary productivity limit the use of fingerlings. Anadromous steelhead smolts are released in streams where they will return as adults from the sea and provide targeted recreational fisheries. Odfw hatcheries use SFR funds to produce steelhead, brook trout, brown trout, kokanee, tiger trout and cutthroat trout, as well as localized rainbow strains from wild broodstocks in additional to purchasing tiger trout, hatchery unlisted lahontan cutthroat trout and some triploid brook trout from out of state to raise and or stock in oregon. This grant is funding all SFR hatcheries and fish health program at SFR hatcheries while a separate SFR grant will fund o m at klamath hatchery in 2024-25.
