Description

The ability to monitor, manage and enhance sport fish opportunities is essential to maintain angler opportunities and satisfaction. The BAY delta region central coast steelhead trout conservation and enhancement project is part of the california department of fish and wildlife s (cdfw) BDR fisheries management program and is comprised of three environmental scientists that oversee three districts: north BAY (marin, sonoma, napa, and solano counties), inner south BAY (contra costa, alameda, and santa clara counties), and the south coast (SAN francisco, SAN mateo, and santa cruz counties). These environmental scientists are responsible for the management, conservation, restoration, and monitoring of fisheries and aquatic resources within the lakes and streams of their respective districts with special emphasis on native salmonids and function as district fisheries biologists. This grant will provide the funding necessary to partially support three district biologists and seasonal field staff to assess and manage the sport fish resources in these ten counties located within the BAY delta region. They accomplish this through close coordination and communication with other cdfw programs and various federal, state, and local governmental agencies and interested stakeholders.
