Description
This project provides california department of fish and wildlife (cdfw) management data and reporting needs forfour sport fisheries including EEL river catch and release chinook salmon fishery (californias only in-rivercalifornia coastal chinook salmon catch and release fishery), catch and release steelhead trout fishery, andstate and federal ocean salmon fisheries south of cape falcon, oregon. The inland and coastal waters of southernhumboldt and mendocino county provide excellent sport fishing opportunities for chinook salmon and steelheadtrout. Fisheries conducted in the EEL river and mendocino coastal rivers attract numerous anglers and supportvisitor, tackle, and guide service industries. State and federal recreational ocean salmon fisheries conductedfrom ports throughout the states of oregon and california significantly contribute to tourism, tackle, boating, and charter service industries. The northern region fisheries assessment project contributes to quality fishing opportunities by conducting andcoordinating the fisheries science needed to improve salmonid populations, and successfully manage that fishery.data gathered by this project are used to assess, plan, and implement restoration work in southern humboldt andmendocino county which supports both listed species and targeted recreational stocks. A clear understanding ofsalmonid population and habitat statuses are essential components to planning and implementing chinook salmon andsteelhead trout recovery actions for sustained in-river and ocean recreational fisheries.
