About this award

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service awarded a $153,858 Formula Grant under the State Wildlife Grants (CFDA 15.634) program to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. The purpose of this 3-year grant, which runs from December 2023 to April 2026, is to quantify the occurrences, abundances, and catch per unit effort (CPUE) of the Texas heelsplitter mussel, a candidate species for federal listing, as well as the overall mussel and fish community in 10-12 off-channel habitats in the Neches River and Sabine River drainages in Texas. This project aims to better understand the conservation status and habitat requirements of the Texas heelsplitter to inform management decisions.
