About this award

The Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service Region 2 awarded a $550,445.71 Formula Grant under the Sport Fish Restoration program (CFDA 15.605) to the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation (ODWC). The purpose of this project is to facilitate the current understanding of angler use and satisfaction of the Lower Mountain Fork River, as well as anglers' attitudes on alternative management strategies and their economic influence in the area. The project will implement two surveys of anglers - one to assess fishing effort and catch, and another to include additional economics and human dimensions questions, including trip expenditures. The data collected will provide information on use, catch, economic value, and angler preferences for trout fishing at the Lower Mountain Fork Trout Area, which will offer insights on alternative management measures. The grant period runs from January 1, 2024 to June 30, 2026.

Under a sub-award, Oklahoma State University will assist in carrying out the project activities, which include providing a final report and copies of any peer-reviewed publications that result from the research.
