About this award

The Game and Fish Commission of Wyoming received a $864,283 formula grant award from the Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service Region 6 under the State Wildlife Grants program (CFDA 15.634). The funding will support seven new projects through December 2026 to conserve species of greatest conservation need in Wyoming. There are over 800 species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, mollusks and crustaceans in the state, with 278 identified as most in need of conservation. More than 80 species are currently at risk of potential listing under the Endangered Species Act. This award will fund efforts to gather more data on species with little information regarding their status, distribution and habitats. Projects will also focus on non-game species, native fish, reptiles and amphibians, which are underfunded and in need of special consideration. Subawards may be provided to partners such as the University of Wyoming and Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory to conduct related research and monitoring activities outlined in Wyoming's wildlife management plans.
