The Georgia Department of Natural Resources received a $1.45 million Formula Grant award from the U.S. Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service Region 4 under the Wildlife Restoration and Basic Hunter Education and Safety federal grant program (CFDA 15.611). The funding will support the Division's efforts to manage and enhance wild quail populations and their habitat in Georgia from October 2022 through December 2026. Specifically, the Division endeavors to achieve and maintain a density target of one bobwhite quail per two acres on designated quail focal areas through conventional habitat management practices and by further validating and understanding the effects of habitat amount and fragmentation on quail population persistence using field data and spatially explicit population models. The award furthers the Pittman-Robertson program's goal of restoring, conserving, managing and enhancing wild birds and their habitats for the benefit of present and future generations.
