The Department of Transportation Connecticut (CTDOT) received a $2,354,149 Formula Grant from the Federal Transit Administration's State of Good Repair Grants Program (CFDA 20.525) on August 7, 2024. The grant will fund the retrofit of three New Flyer Xcelsior battery-electric 40-ft buses with sensor, camera, and computing hardware to integrate five advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) capabilities: forward collision mitigation, side collision avoidance, rear collision avoidance, rear blind spot warning, and precision docking assist. The project aims to increase on-road safety, enhance transit service reliability, and improve accessibility for CTFASTRAK operators, customers, and other roadway users along local routes in the Hartford region. In addition, the grant will provide funding for various state of good repair activities to support the CTFASTRAK infrastructure. The project is expected to be completed by December 31, 2028.
