The Department of Housing and Urban Development Public and Indian Housing Office awarded $239,828 to the Mobile Housing Authority on January 1, 2026 under the Public Housing Operating Fund (CFDA 14.850), a formula grant program that provides operating subsidies to housing authorities for day-to-day operational expenses of public housing.
Mobile Housing Authority will use the funds to cover management and operations, routine and preventative maintenance, anti-crime and security activities, energy costs, resident supportive services, insurance, and administrative implementation expenses for public housing units in Mobile, Alabama. The award is part of a recurring formula allocation for the period January 1, 2026 through December 31, 2032.
The Public Housing Operating Fund serves approximately 6,000 housing authorities nationwide and provides approximately $5 billion annually to support operating and maintenance expenses across 902,436 public housing households, including 44% elderly residents and 35% families with children. Housing authorities receive operating subsidies to maintain services and provide minimum operating reserves in accordance with Section 9 of the U.S. Housing Act of 1937, as amended. PHAs have access to web-based platforms that provide real-time data on funding levels, occupancy rates, and families served.
