This $149,337 Formula Grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 5 supports the Indiana Department of Natural Resources' implementation of the State Underground Water Source Protection program. The grant funds permit review and compliance evaluation activities for 40 Class II underground injection wells, including annual inspections, pressure readings, and approximately 150 mechanical integrity tests. Technical assistance will be provided to permit applicants. Databases tracking injection systems and compliance information will be maintained. The anticipated outcome is protection of underground sources of drinking water from injection activities. No subawards are included in the agreement. The objective of the EPA's State Underground Water Source Protection program under the Safe Drinking Water Act is to foster development and implementation of underground injection control programs at the state level.
