About this award
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded the Minnesota Department of Public Safety $120,911.25 on October 1, 2025, under the Section 405(f) Motorcyclist Safety Grant program (CFDA 20.616, National Priority Safety Programs).
The funding supports motorcyclist safety training courses, motorcyclist awareness programs, and related countermeasures to reduce fatalities and crashes involving motorcycles and impaired motorcyclists. Minnesota qualified for the award by meeting two of the statutory criteria, which include motorcycle rider training, awareness programming, documented reductions in motorcycle fatalities and crashes, impaired driving countermeasures, reductions in impaired motorcyclist incidents, fees collected from motorcyclists for motorcycle programs, and helmet use enforcement for riders under 18.
The award runs through September 30, 2029, with place of performance at St Paul, Minnesota. Funding is distributed through Minnesota's Fiscal and Administrative Services Division, which administers the grant as a state highway safety office. The division receives funds based on an approved Triennial Highway Safety Plan and Annual Grant Application detailing problem identification, performance measures, and countermeasure strategies. NHTSA reimburses actual costs incurred through voucher claims submitted by the state.
