About this award

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded the Missouri Department of Transportation $560,665.28 on October 1, 2025, under the Section 405(e) Distracted Driving Awareness Grant program (Assistance Listing 20.616, National Priority Safety Programs), a formula grant to support state distracted driving programs.

The award funds activities designed to reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities resulting from motor vehicle crashes through distracted driving countermeasures. Missouri qualifies for this funding by having enacted and enforced a law that prohibits texting while driving or youth cell phone use while driving. The funds support projects and programs identified in the State's approved Triennial Highway Safety Plan and Annual Grant Application, which detail problem identification, public participation and engagement, performance measures, and countermeasure strategies.

The period of performance extends from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2029. Work is performed in Jefferson City, Missouri. The assistance type is a formula grant. MoDOT, as the state highway safety office, receives the funds based on its approved grant application and executes the approved distracted driving programs. Federal reimbursement occurs on claims submitted via Electronic Transfer of Funds for costs incurred. Grant records must be retained for three years following submission of a final expenditure report.
