About this award
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded the Minnesota Department of Public Safety $532,231.42 on October 1, 2025, under the Section 405(e) Distracted Driving Awareness Grant program to support state distracted driving awareness and countermeasure initiatives through September 30, 2029.
The award funds distracted driving programs in Minnesota, including planned projects designed to reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities resulting from motor vehicle crashes. Minnesota qualifies for this funding by having enacted and enforced laws prohibiting texting while driving and youth cell phone use while driving. The recipient, operating through its Fiscal and Administrative Services Division, administers the award as a formula grant based on an approved triennial highway safety plan and annual grant application that detail problem identification, countermeasure strategies, performance measures, and public participation and engagement activities.
Place of performance is St. Paul, Minnesota. The award operates on a reimbursement basis; Minnesota submits claims in vouchers covering incurred costs, which NHTSA reimburses upon approval. The recipient retains records for three years following submission of a final expenditure report and resolution of any audit findings.
