About this award

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded the Judiciary Courts of the State of Indiana, operating as the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute, $4,012,684.83 on October 1, 2025, under the Section 405(d) Impaired Driving Countermeasures Grant program (CFDA 20.616, National Priority Safety Programs).

The funding supports state impaired driving countermeasures programs, including costs related to adoption and enforcement of mandatory alcohol-ignition interlock laws and 24/7 sobriety programs. ICJI, as Indiana's state administering agency for highway safety, uses the award to implement countermeasure strategies detailed in the approved triennial highway safety plan and annual grant application, targeting the reduction of motor vehicle crashes, injuries, and fatalities resulting from impaired driving.

The award runs through September 30, 2029, with place of performance in Indianapolis, Indiana. Funds are apportioned to ICJI using a statutory formula and are provided based on Indiana's approved triennial highway safety plan, which identifies problem areas, public participation mechanisms, performance measures, and countermeasure strategies. ICJI distributes these federal resources to local jurisdictions and coordinates implementation of the approved projects across the state.
