About this award
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities $401,260.53 on October 1, 2025, under the National Priority Safety Programs formula grant (CFDA 20.616, Section 405(c)) to support improvements in the accuracy, completeness, timeliness, uniformity, accessibility, or integration of core highway safety databases consistent with federal traffic records regulations.
The award funds state traffic safety information system improvements delivered through Alaska's Traffic Records Coordinating Committee (TRCC) and designated TRCC coordinator, with an approved state traffic records strategic plan guiding implementation. Work is performed in Juneau, Alaska, with a period of performance through September 30, 2029. The funding supports data program enhancements designed to reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities resulting from motor vehicle crashes.
Alaska DOT&PF qualifies for Section 405(c) funding as a state highway safety office meeting statutory requirements: a functioning TRCC, designated coordinator, and approved strategic plan. The program apportions funds using statutory formula methodology and requires an approved triennial highway safety plan detailing problem identification, public participation, performance measures, and countermeasure strategies, together with an annual grant application documenting specific funded projects. Reimbursement occurs on a federal share basis through vouchers covering incurred costs, with all participants using Electronic Transfer of Funds for disbursement.
