About this award
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded the Oregon Department of Transportation $5,125,535.85 under the Section 402 State and Community Highway Safety Grant program (CFDA 20.600) on October 1, 2025, to conduct behavioral highway safety programs under Oregon's approved highway safety plan.
The award funds countermeasure strategies and projects designed to reduce traffic crashes, deaths, injuries, and property damage through problem identification, performance measures, and evidence-based interventions identified in Oregon's triennial and annual grant applications. The funding is apportioned to Oregon using the statutory formula established by Congress for the 50 states, territories, and federally recognized tribes.
ODOT, the state highway safety office, administers the grant and determines project allocation based on Oregon's identified safety problems and countermeasure priorities. The period of performance runs from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2029, with place of performance at ODOT headquarters in Salem, Oregon. ODOT sub-awards funds to county transportation departments, municipalities, and regional planning organizations for local highway safety initiatives.
The formula grant structure provides Oregon flexibility in administering its highway safety program within federal parameters. NHTSA Regional Administrators review Oregon's Performance Plan and Grant Application for eligibility and compliance. States must retain records for at least three years from the date of the final financial report submission.
