About this award
The U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded a $1,070,988.55 formula grant under the National Priority Safety Programs (CFDA 20.616) to the Washington Traffic Safety Commission. This funding supports the state's alcohol-impaired driving countermeasures and other initiatives to reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities resulting from motor vehicle incidents in Washington.
Specifically, the grant allows the Traffic Safety Commission to implement evidence-based programs targeting key behavioral highway safety priorities, such as impaired driving prevention, occupant protection, traffic records system improvements, distracted driving enforcement, and other critical safety areas. Funded activities span public education campaigns, high-visibility law enforcement, adoption of safety laws and policies, data collection and analysis, and specialized training for law enforcement. As a sub-awardee to the Washington Department of Public Instruction, the Traffic Safety Commission also leverages this federal funding to advance school transportation safety statewide.
