About this award
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation received a $4.674 million Formula Grant award from the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration on September 12, 2022. The funding supports the Highway Planning and Construction program (CFDA 20.205) and will be used to construct Phase 1 of the Schuylkill River Trail and overhead bridge in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Specifically, the grant funds will go towards building a multi-use path and pedestrian bridge as part of the Schuylkill River Trail. This trail extension will link Fairmount Park to downtown Philadelphia, creating an important transportation corridor for commuting and recreation. Upon completion, it will serve as the backbone of a regional trail network for biking, jogging, hiking and other activities. The project also aims to improve river access. As the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania oversees this infrastructure development, the funding supports the state's efforts to enhance transportation options and connect residents to green spaces.
