About this award
The Port of Benton received a $3.16 million formula grant award on September 19, 2025, under the Airport Improvement Program, Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act Programs, and COVID-19 Airports Programs (CFDA 20.106), administered by the Federal Aviation Administration's Northwest Mountain Region. This Phase 2 construction grant funds comprehensive airfield infrastructure improvements at a non-primary airport in Richland, Washington, with a completion deadline of September 18, 2029. The project deliverables include installation of replacement navigational aids such as a wind cone and precision approach path indicator system for Runway 8/26, reconstruction of runway and taxiway lighting systems (including runway end identifier lights), airfield guidance sign fixtures meeting Federal Aviation Administration design standards, and reconstruction of an airport lighting vault building. Additionally, the grant funds pavement preservation work, including resealing of 3,500 linear feet of Runway 8/26 pavement, 4,000 linear feet of Taxiway A pavement, 18,150 square yards of general aviation apron, and 9,790 square yards of south apron.
These improvements are designed to enhance airfield safety, extend infrastructure useful life, and bring the airport into conformity with current Federal Aviation Administration standards, thereby providing pilots with critical navigational information and supporting the region's transportation infrastructure needs.
