The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NH DES) received a $400,000 Formula Grant award from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 1 under the Sewer Overflow and Stormwater Reuse Municipal Grant Program (CFDA 66.447). The grant funding will support subawards from NH DES to New Hampshire municipalities for planning, designing, and constructing eligible water quality improvement and protection projects related to combined sewer overflows, sanitary sewer overflows, and stormwater and subsurface drainage.
One subaward recipient, the City of Berlin, will receive funding to reduce infiltration and inflow within its municipal sewer system through pipe replacement and/or relining, re-routing of illicit inflow connections, and rehabilitation and/or replacement of select manholes. The city will also use funds to construct new storm drains. Grant monies may cover engineering design fees, preparation of bidding documents, and construction costs. The overall goals of the funding are to protect public health and improve water quality by reducing sewer overflows through stormwater management.
