The Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Community Living awarded the Mississippi Department of Human Services $422,214 on October 1, 2025 under the Older Americans Act Title VII Long-Term Care Ombudsman Services program (CFDA 93.042) for the period October 1, 2025 through September 30, 2027.
The grant funds long-term care ombudsman services in Mississippi, supporting investigation and resolution of complaints made by or on behalf of residents of nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and other long-term care facilities. Ombudsman services identify, investigate, and resolve complaints related to health, safety, welfare, and rights of residents; provide information about long-term services and supports; ensure residents have regular access to ombudsman services; represent residents before governmental agencies; and analyze and recommend changes to laws and regulations affecting resident protections.
Mississippi Department of Human Services passes funding to the Southern Mississippi Planning and Development District, Inc., a nonprofit planning and development organization based in Gulfport, to deliver ombudsman program operations across the regional service area. Performance occurs in Mississippi. The award is made on a non-competitive, statutory formula basis to the designated State Agency on Aging.
