The Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Community Living awarded $188,180 to Disability Law Center of Alaska on October 1, 2025, under the Voting Access for Individuals with Disabilities program (CFDA 93.618), a formula grant supporting protection and advocacy systems.
The award funds voting access activities for individuals with disabilities across Alaska through September 30, 2030. Under the program, Disability Law Center of Alaska will ensure full participation in the electoral process for individuals with disabilities, provide education and training to individuals with disabilities to promote their electoral participation, participate in advocacy and education efforts around Help America Vote Act (HAVA) implementation, train election officials and poll workers on disability rights and best practices, assist individuals with disabilities in filing complaints under state-based HAVA administrative grievance procedures and represent them in related hearings, provide assistance to states and governmental entities regarding polling place accessibility, and obtain training and technical assistance on voting issues including accessible voting equipment and systems.
Disability Law Center of Alaska is Alaska's designated protection and advocacy system for individuals with disabilities, headquartered in Anchorage. The organization also maintains active federal funding under multiple other protection and advocacy programs administered by the Departments of Health and Human Services, Education, and the Social Security Administration, serving vulnerable Alaskan populations including individuals with serious mental illness, developmental disabilities, and traumatic brain injuries.
