The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare was awarded a $443,067 Formula Grant from the United States Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service under the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) (CFDA 10.557). The grant will support WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselors services from October 1, 2022 through September 30, 2025.
Under the award, the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare will provide WIC and breastfeeding peer counseling services to at-risk pregnant and postpartum women and children up to age five. Services will be delivered in part through sub-awards to three regional public health districts - Southwest District Health, Southeastern Idaho Public Health, and South Central Public Health District - to support counseling and referrals in their respective service areas through September 2025. The goal is to improve nutrition and health outcomes for this vulnerable population as outlined under the WIC program.
