About this award
This federal Formula Grant award, provided by the U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Assistance under the Residential Substance Abuse Treatment (RSAT) for State Prisoners Program (CFDA 16.593), will fund $244,521 in substance use disorder (SUD) treatment and reentry services for incarcerated individuals in the state of Nebraska. The grant aims to enhance access to evidence-based SUD treatment, including medication-assisted treatment, counseling, and behavioral therapies, within state correctional facilities and local jails. The funding will support comprehensive reentry planning activities to facilitate successful community reintegration and reduce recidivism. The Nebraska Commission on Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice, the state agency overseeing the grant, will use the funds to provide outreach, subawards, and coordination with state and local correctional systems to implement the treatment programs over the four-year award period from October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2028.
Description
The purpose of the application is to request funding for the outreach and subaward to the state correctional system and local jail-based treatment programs that provide SUD treatment programming and services to incarcerated individuals during pre-trial detention, post-trial detention and RE-entry aftercare. Inmates assigned to residential substance use treatment programs have been identified as having serious substance use disorders. These programs generally last for a period of 6 - 12 months and at least 3 months in jails through the state of nebraska. May support existing efforts to address OUD, including FDA-approved medications to treat substance use disorder, and counseling and behavioral therapies. The programs will concentrate on the following objective:prepare offenders for reintegration into the communities from which they came by incorporating RE-entry planning activities into the treatment programs; provide enhanced residential substance use treatment and RE-entry outreach for incarcerated individuals; and improve staff coordination to ensure treatments are provided in an efficient manner. Efforts will made as part of outreach through a rsat survey from our rsat TA providers to distribute throughout the state of nebraska. Outreach efforts will be made to the county and local jail facilities by coordinating efforts with the nebraska jail standards division, the nebraska statistical analysis center (SAC), nebraska department of corrections and other criminal justice and mental health stakeholders to identify jail-based programs that could provide residential substance use treatment programs to incarcerated individuals.
