The Environmental Protection Agency Region 4 awarded $1,190,602 to the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality on October 1, 2025, to support development and implementation of an authorized hazardous waste management program under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. The award funds permitting, corrective actions, closure, compliance, and enforcement programs conducted in accordance with the state-EPA Memorandum of Agreement. Activities regulate hazardous waste generation, transportation, treatment, storage, and disposal; minimize hazardous waste production; and protect public health and the environment from inactive hazardous waste facilities. The period of performance runs through September 30, 2026, with work performed in North Carolina. The program—Hazardous Waste Management State Program Support (CFDA 66.801)—provides formula grant assistance to state governments to develop and implement ongoing hazardous waste management programs.
