The Idaho Department of Water Resources (IDWR) received a $220,000 Formula Grant award from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 10 under the State Underground Water Source Protection program (CFDA 66.433). The grant will support IDWR's implementation of Idaho's Underground Injection Control (UIC) program from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2023. Key deliverables include developing and maintaining inventories of injection systems, databases for compliance information on underground injection well activities, and implementing UIC permitting and enforcement programs. Expected outcomes are completion of minimum UIC program requirements inspections, enforcement actions, maintenance of relationships with Memoranda of Understanding partners, increased staff knowledge and capacity, and public engagement activities. The funding will allow IDWR to protect underground sources of drinking water from underground injection activities as required under the Safe Drinking Water Act.
