STARBASE is an afterschool and school-based mentoring initiative that combines Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) activities with relationship-rich programming for middle and high school students, designed to raise interest and improve knowledge and skills in STEM among underserved youth to support the Department of Defense's workforce needs. The award, which obligated $524,496 total, includes a federal appropriation of $488,072 with the remainder funded through state matching contributions. Performance occurs in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This is a congressionally directed cooperative agreement; the Oklahoma Military Department operates the program through the state National Guard's Adjutant General office in partnership with local school districts. The recipient maintains records for three years following closeout and must contact the grant officer at least ten days before period expiration if an extension is needed.
