The award supports a broad range of cultural resource stewardship activities primarily at park level, including inventory, monitoring, research, rehabilitation, restoration, preservation, and documentation of historic resources. The Great Basin Institute will deploy Historic Preservation Technicians and Specialists to provide complete documentation of historic buildings, structures, features, and objects to Department of Interior (DOI) standards, assist with Section 106 compliance mitigation stipulations, and implement treatment and repair work on historic structures to prevent loss and ensure visitor and resource safety.

This award reflects NPS's established pattern of funding cooperative agreements—which comprise 99 percent of awards under CFDA 15.946—to address the full scope of cultural resource stewardship across the National Park System.
