About this award

The University of Florida's Division of Sponsored Research received a $195,641 Cooperative Agreement award from the National Park Service under the Cooperative Research and Training Programs – Resources of the National Park System (CFDA 15.945) effective September 15, 2025, through September 14, 2027. This award supports the development of a detailed computer hydrologic model capable of simulating local-scale water dynamics and canal-marsh interactions within Everglades National Park. The deliverable model will enable park managers, scientists, and government agencies to more accurately predict water movement through the landscape and support critical management objectives including ecosystem restoration planning, infrastructure development, and water quality monitoring.

The Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Units (CESU) Network programming facilitates multi-disciplinary scientific collaboration across the National Park System. Under this award, the University of Florida will generate integrated information products benefiting multiple stakeholder groups, including state and local governments, federally recognized Indian tribal governments, nonprofit organizations, institutions of higher education, and the general public. The modeling work directly supports the National Park Service's science-based management approach and contributes to actionable research addressing specific resource management challenges within the National Park System.

Description

15.945: cooperative research and training programs of the national park system cesu network programming supports a comprehensive network of cooperative study units to facilitate cooperative research, technical assistance, education, and training to inform science-based management of the national park system. The study units facilitate multi-disciplinary science and integrated information products across multiple geographic regions of the national park system. The goal of this project is to create a detailed computer model capable of simulating local-scale hydrologic dynamics, canal-marsh interactions to better predict how water moves through the landscape in everglades national park. The model will help with restoring the area, planning new buildings, and checking water quality, providing useful information for the public, park managers, scientists, and government groups.beneficiaries include state and local governments, federally recognized indian tribal governments, public private nonprofit organizations, nonprofit institutions of higher education, and the general public.
