Description
The natural resource stewardship program is the principle means through which the national park service (NPS) evaluates and improves the health of watersheds, landscapes, and marine and coastal resources, sustains biological communities on the lands and waters in parks, and actively endeavors to improve the resiliency of these natural resources and adapt them to the effects of climate change. To carry out and further this stewardship responsibility, NPS implements programs that encompass a broad range of research, operational, and educational activities by utilizing park personnel and contractor support or cooperative agreements. Through this cooperative agreement, the SAN mateo resource conservation district and golden gate national recreation area (goga) will collaborate on projects to restore and enhance biodiverse habitats, control invasive species, and mitigate the threat of catastrophic wildfire, and support rare and endangered species recovery. Project sites include rancho corral DE tierra, sweeney ridge, phleger estate, mori point and milagra ridge. Management actions are needed to reduce fire fuels and control invasive plants along goga s wildland-urban interface and open spaces. Collaborative work to promote fire resilient landscapes will reduce the threats that catastrophic wildfires pose to human health and safety, infrastructure, and natural habitats. Beneficiaries include the general public.
