The $139,953 award to the University of Alaska Fairbanks, effective from December 20, 2024 to December 31, 2026, will use dynamical and statistical projections of downscaled daily future weather to assess changes in potential impacts and hazards associated with extreme precipitation, snowfall, rain-on-snow events, and fire weather for watersheds in the region. The beneficiaries of this project include state and local governments, tribal governments, public-private nonprofit organizations, higher education institutions, and the general public.

Description

Programming supports a comprehensive network of cooperative study units to facilitate cooperative research, technical assistance, education, and training to inform science-based management of the national park system. The study units facilitate multi-disciplinary science and integrated information products across multiple geographic regions of the national park system. In this project, dynamical and statistical projections of downscaled daily futureweather will be used to assess the changes in potential impacts hazards associated with extreme precipitation (and estimated flooding runoff), snowfall and snow accumulation (and estimated snow loads), rain-on-snow events, and fire weather (and estimated fire regime burned area) for the immediate HUC12 watersheds in the region. Beneficiaries include state and local governments, federally recognized indian tribal governments, public private nonprofit organizations, nonprofit institutions of higher education, and the general public.
